He Chose You…

I have had multiple opportunities to present a monologue of Gomer, the unfaithful wife of the prophet Hosea…to a variety of women’s events and each time I come to the part where Hosea buys Gomer back as his wife, my heart is so moved and my tears are real…

Here’s a bit from the end of the script…

“And then I heard a voice that I knew call from the crowd! ‘I’ll buy her! 15 pieces of silver and some barley and wine!’

“It couldn’t be – it couldn’t be! The humiliation and the shame – it was my husband! My husband who I had publicly humiliated! Who I had turned my back on! I mocked his goodness and I ignored his existence and yet he bought me! My knees buckled and I crumpled into the filth and the dirt! The sobs racked my body – my eyes were just a blur!”

“I felt his cloak drop over me and his arms pick me up. He carried me tenderly home. He washed the filth off my body, rinsed the shame from my tangled hair, fragranced it with perfume, clothed me in his own garments and he fed me and raised me up to be his wife again.”

“How? What love is this? Why Hosea?”

“He lifted my chin with his fingers and with eyes that held deep abiding love he looked at me and said…’because Gomer, I chose you and I love you. Regardless of your behavior – it’s not dependent on you! I love you!’

“I could not believe this incomprehensible love! What amazing love!”

“And now that I KNOW him – really KNOW the depth of his heart…. The world cannot tempt me – the world has nothing to offer that can compete with the intimacy and the purity of that love!”

Hosea and Gomer – a beautiful story isn’t it? It is in the Bible to teach you that’s how God loves you!

He chose you knowing there would be times you would turn your back on him. He is passionately and jealously in love with you and Jesus came as the ultimate sacrifice just for you. And nothing you can ever do will change his love for you.

So if you think Hosea loved Gomer? Multiply that a trillion times and you will start to see how much God loves you!

How precious you are ~ His treasure!
